John Leighton Wilson (a Presbyterian minister born in Sumter, SC, spent most of his missions in West Africa, and translated Scripture into multiple African languages) wrote this in 1879 in his publication of Thoughts on Foreign Missions. “If the Lord Jesus Christ has made known his will more clearly in relation to any one matter than another, it is that his gospel should be made known to all the nations of the earth.“ He goes on to say, “Another consideration of great moment is, that there are greater facilities and advantages at present for spreading the knowledge of the gospel among mankind than ever existed before.“ Wilson wrote this in the 19th century when travel, compared to what we know now, was comparatively more difficult. And yet he said, compared to the rest of history, he had greater advantages to travel. And how much more can we say that today in the 21st century? We have even greater advantages to get places in which we could not formally go to, and this greater advantage means we should have greater responsibility.
